This term in class we started to look at Explanations in Writing. First we learnt how to write them, then we had a go at writing our own. All the members of our class wrote about the GreenHouse Effect- known as greenhouse gases that are in our solar system. Here is my piece of work and a diagram to show what I learnt…

Green-House Effect
The greenhouse effect is when sun rays are sometimes are absorbed, warming up the earth, but some rays can bounce back out into space. Greenhouse gases are really good for things on Earth. If we didn’t have greenhouse gases it would be freezing on Earth as the temperature would drop to about -18 degrees.

For the greenhouse gases to work we need the sun to give solar radiation and rays so the Earth will stay warm, the greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane also keep the Earth warm.

For the greenhouse effect to work the sun needs to produce solar radiation and rays to hit the earth, while the rays try to get to the Earth it bumps into tiny little particles called carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane which warms up the rays and radiation. Some of the solar radiation and rays will hit the Earth while others will bounce back into space.

The greenhouse effect acts like a big blanket on the Earth heating and re-heating the world. Things that effect the greenhouse gases can be cars – pollution, processed things including plastics, rubbers and electricity, people use electricity to warm up the Earth not the sun.

I believe that the greenhouse effect is a good thing that heats and re-heats the Earth. I think that the greenhouse gases help make and keep the Earth warm. I also believe that humans should do something I reduce greenhouse gases

My letter from the Gold-Fields

1862 May 22nd
Dear Mother & Father,
Even since I came to the gold-fields I knew I was going to find gold, I just wanted to provide for our family back at home. Today was about the 3rd time I was going mining, but today I was accompanied with my mate Jack. I was always scared of going down the mines as I thought it might cave in on me. Today while I was panning I heard my mate that had gone down the mine yelling for help, for a minute I thought he was joking but then I realised he drowned. I have been really upset as he was my only mate on the gold-fields but I had to strike it rich so I could provide for our family. The day after a few other miners were helping me while panning and taught me a few tricks to finding gold. A few months later I found a large piece of gold which they said I worth about $3500, I can’t wait to come home with that much of money. I wish you could see the gold-fields for your self, but I wouldn’t want you to go through the pain I did. I hope to come home soon, but until then,

This week in class we have been looking at science! We have been looking into expriments and why they have reactions. We had so much fun making a volcano and seeing what the volcano made. Did you know bi-carb soda and vinegar created Carbon dioxide, How cool is that! We had so much fun creating different reactions and seeing how they smelt and what they looked like.

This week in class we have been writing narrative story’s this is my one and I hope you like it!

” The Mystery in the old house ”

Lily got a shiver down her spine while walking though the old house with Caroline the old owner, and Abigail the real-estate agent. She asked her sister Katy why mum and dad where making them move but she didn’t answer back.
“Sold!”
Lily herd Abigail yell out to mum and dad, she felt sick because she was were moving here. That night she couldn’t get any sleep, she was thinking about how old that house was and what would happen if it was haunted. In the morning she was a tired wreck and didn’t want to start packing for the new house. In the car Lily was so upset that she had to move to a piece of junk. She didn’t want any of this to happen. But it did, before she knew it an old, wooden house was standing in front of her.

Lily was shocked at how big it looked from the outside. But didn’t want to go in, Lily’s mum turned the key to open the door. Katy was so excited she ran up to her room, however Lily didn’t want to go anywhere, but she knew she had to. She crept up to her room slowly and then opened the door. In her room was a huge bed with a bathroom and a small cupboard. She pushed all the old fashioned furniture out into the hall way and cleaned the room to make it hers. She could hear loud music coming from Katy’s room until it stopped then she heard yelling saying “LILY HELP!” she didn’t care because Lily was in a bad mood.

Mum yelled out “dinner time!” Lily raced down the stairs as her tummy was grumbling. As soon as she saw the food on the table, she was so excited to eat after a long hard day cleaning her room. While she was eating dinner she noticed that her sister Katy wasn’t there, she was confused for a little bit until she thought she might be sleeping or still unpacking. After dinner she was walking up the stairs when she saw a white light coming from Katy’s room, she thought that was fine so she hopped into her bed. After the lights where turned off as mum and dad where going to bed, she was wondering if Katy was okay and what happened to her. Before she fell asleep she heard someone like Katy saying ” HELP LILY ! I NEED YOUR HELP ! PLEASE HELP! She freaked out and covered her head with her soft blanket, eventually she fell asleep.

After Lily was woken from her deep sleep, she thought of what happened last night and had the courage to go into Katy’s room. So she got up and slowly walked into Katy’s room as mum and dad where still asleep. First she peeked through the door and then opened it. She honestly thought her room look really cool but then she noticed that there was a really, really old picture hanging of the wall on top of Katy’s bed. She flipped the old picture around a found a note in the back of it it said – I have your sister. I will keep her until you leave this house for good, and never come back! – she froze as she read the scary letter. As soon as she finished the reading the letter she ran down stairs to show mum and dad the letter, they froze while they were reading it as well, but they also realised that this writing was like Abigail’s writing they also thought that it was the exact same, Lily’s mum and dad called the police straight away.

A few days after Abigail was arrested for kidnapping a child and that she did this without anyone knowing. The Smith family lived happily in their new house on Phantoms Lane. They also realised in their new house something wasn’t right. Lily still was worried if it will happen again and is still upset with the dread in her life now. She also was very curious about the house that was all alone in the corner of the street.

Today at school we did the 100 word challenge for reading. We got a picture of a Lego boy meeting a big bird with some birdseeds next to him. Here is my 100wc I hope you enjoy it

“Good morning city” I yelled out while I was on my balcony. Today was a new day, a day for a fresh start. I first had a shower, put some clothes on and then had my yummy brekkie. Today I was going out to the country for a walk! I was so excited for my first walk in about 3 months “yay” I said to myself with a happy attitude inside of me! I tied my shoes up ready for my walk, I packed my bag and locked the door. I ran out the door really happy! But as soon as I walked out there was some birdseeds that I left outside yesterday that now had a new friend it was a huge bird!

What’s in my box? – Part 2

Dear Diary,

Today I had a really weird and sad day today. It first started when I woke up, I had a normal morning as usual, I got my waffles and milk out and had breakfast. When I was getting change this is when it all started and my life feel apart. I put on my school clothes on ready for school, until I heard my mum screaming as loud as she could, I ran to her and saw what no kid would want to see.

My Grandpa, Grandma and dad were all dead, I saw blood on the bedroom floor and bones everywhere. I held my breath, until I woke up from my scary nightmare. I cried until the doorbell rang. I ran to the door thinking that I would get mail but instead of mail I got a big fat wooden box. I gave the box to my dad as it was for him, but as soon as he got in it was left in the basement.

It’s now been 24 hours and I’m still thinking what my dad got in the box. And I’m still wondering why my dad hasn’t open or looked in the box, maybe he wants to leave it for later. During the day I get home schooled as I live on a farm, it’s not that fun but I guess you get used to it. Thankfully now it’s dinner time and mum has made my favourite- roast chicken with our own farm grown vegetables. My Grandma, Grandpa, mum and dad all ate a lot because they were hungry.

It’s now about 9:45pm in the night and I’m about to go to bed, I first put my new soft blue pj’s that grandma made on and I jump into bed, I fall asleep straight away as I’m really tired. In the morning I slip down to the basement when no ones looking and open that box my dad got. Inside there was a beautiful soft blanket that hasn’t been used before. I drag it all the way up to my room were it was laid carefully on my bed.

That night I slept with it in my bedroom, but in the morning I was Elsy Boument no more but now I was a more prettier girl with blond hair, tanned skin and a beautiful pair of silky, soft and new yellow pj’s. I was shock what with this blanket could do so I threw it away before it did anything else.

It’s been 5 years since I have seen that blanket. My new look fadded away and all my wishes didn’t come true, but that’s okay I still have my family.
